Superficial Keratectomy FAQs

A Superficial Keratectomy is the “resurfacing” of the cornea to allow for the corneal surface cells to remodel and heal into a more regular, consistent pattern.

You may have a corneal issue that is causing recurrent pain or causing irregularities to your corneal surface that needs to be corrected prior to any surgery.

The procedure is performed in our Minor Procedure room at our Century City office.

Your eye will be patched after the procedure and we recommend bringing someone with you who can drive.

You will feel discomfort and irritation. We ask that you allow for time to heal and may need a few days off following the procedure.

If you were prescribed any medications or using any eye drops, please bring them with you. If you wear contacts, please do not wear them to your appointment.

Corneal Collagen Crosslinking FAQs

Corneal Collagen Crosslinking is a procedure designed to strengthen the cornea by stimulating the collagen fibers to form new bonds and prevent the progression of keratoconus.

A recommendation has been made by your doctor that based on your testing and records, there is progression to your keratoconus. The goal is to stabilize the cornea and to stop the progression of the keratoconus.

The procedure is performed in our Minor Procedure room at our Century City office.

If you were prescribed any medications or using any eye drops, please bring them with you. If you wear contacts, please do not wear them to your appointment.

We recommend that you bring someone to drive you following the procedure.

You will feel discomfort, irritation, and a foreign body sensation secondary to the procedure. Your vision will be blurred while you heal during that first week and you may be limited in your physical activities and your work. We ask patients to plan to take the week of the procedure off for rehabilitation.

YAG Capsulotomy FAQs

A YAG Capsulotomy is a treatment with the laser to treat the form of a posterior capsular opacification which can cause fuzzy, cloudy vision following cataract surgery. This treatment is only required once per eye.

A recommendation has been made by your doctor help treat the posterior capsular opacification (PCO) that may be clouding your vision. Following treatment, the hope is that your vision will return to previous clarity.

There is no preparation needed. If you are taking any eye drops, please bring them with you to your appointment.

You will be dilated as part of the procedure. If you find it difficult to drive while dilated, please bring someone to drive you following your appointment.

There are no restrictions after the procedure. You will be dilated as part of the procedure which can take 2-4 hours to resolve.

YAG Capsulotomy Overview

YAG Peripheral Iridotomy (PI) FAQs

YAG Peripheral Iridotomy is a laser procedure that creates a small hole in the periphery of your iris to help protect your eye against angle closure and to allow for fluid to travel freely from the posterior to the anterior chamber.

A recommendation has been made by your doctor to protect you against angle closure and sudden increases in eye pressure that can lead to damage to the optic nerve.

The procedure is performed at our Century City office.

You may drive yourself home after the procedure.

YAG Peripheral Iridotomy (PI) Overview

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) FAQs

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a laser treatment used to stimulate the trabecular meshwork, the natural drainage system of the eye, into increasing the amount of fluid drained, thus in turn reducing eye pressure.

A recommendation has been made by your doctor to help reduce the eye pressure and possibly reduce your dependence on your eye drops.
